Hello and welcome back to another installment of the long-running sci-fi meta drama series The Jarbochov Tetrimino Crusade… what? Oh? this is an internet newsletter? Ohhhh.
I hope you had a good Thanksgiving holiday. I got plenty of R&R. I’m still coping with the fact that it’s the end of the year. Time for everyone to compile their best of lists1, survive Whamageddon, and hopefully get some respite from another year that hasn’t been so kind.

Good, because I ask a lot of “dumb questions” from time to time. I’d rather know than assume.
Apple Tells Employees They Can Talk About How Much They Make
Any employer that tells you not to probably doesn’t want you to know. You should know what your peers make, as it will give you leverage if you’re kicking ass and taking names.
An “incident” with the James Webb Space Telescope has occurred
A small setback for the successor to the Hubble Telescope, but it still feels like forever since this thing was proposed. Fingers crossed for a successful launch.

Did Spotify give you your summary of music listening for the year? Did Apple Music give you that dumb playlist instead of statistics? Now you can have an AI judge your horrible music tastes for you. This reminds me of when I worked for a college radio station in the early 2000s when “You’ve probably never even heard of them” was uttered unironically. (h/t to @biblialex)

I think this was glossed over at the beginning of the year because I missed it.
As one of his first acts in office, President Joe Biden signed Executive Order 13986 on January 20, 2021, to discontinue citizenship tabulations at the city-block level using 2020 census data with administrative records. Illegal immigrants in the country will no longer be excluded from the numbers used for apportioning congressional seats among the states.

Most Popular Web Browsers 1993 – 2020
On a personal note, I’ve fully switched over to Safari as my personal web browser. It’s significantly faster than Chrome, and extension support with iOS and macOS is so much more robust. And the privacy options have been great too.

That’s all from me, I had more to share from taking a week off, but I’ll save for a future installment. As always, thanks for reading, and have a fantastic weekend.
- Will I compile such a list? Maybe, probably not best of, but what I enjoyed. ↩
- Did I just source Wikipedia? Yup. ↩
- the other DX flavors are fine, but the original is it’s own thing. ↩
- With four player split-screen! Might need to put this on a list. ↩
- Maybe a Pac-Man block during the next charity event I run? Does anyone even read the footnotes? ↩
