I\u2019ve grown apart from some people and closer to others, and I\u2019m not certain if it\u2019s all a bad or good thing as my social circle shrinks. I\u2019m thankful that for all the sadness and anger we have all experienced for over a year, I\u2019ve had people in my life to help me get through it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That\u2019s enough introspection. Let\u2019s get to the goods!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Video Games<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It took me two weeks before I held off on talking about video games. I warned you this would happen. Nintendo held an indie game showcase this week on YouTube and of the many games announced, here were my highlights:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=zh0kQM0e6Oo\">TOEM<\/a> &#8211; a cute 2D\/3D chill photography quest game.<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Ugw4BFL8wPo\">Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon<\/a> &#8211; Shovel Knight + puzzle game = YES<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=8pbRNO4YDFI\">Eastward<\/a> &#8211; I\u2019ve been following this game for a few years. It\u2019s an RPG with a stunning art style. It just looks very intriguing to me. <\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=pdEISFAtHVg\">Axiom Verge 2<\/a> &#8211; A follow-up to the original from one man developer Tom Happ. I played through the original twice. It was the most Metroid-like non Metroid game I\u2019ve ever played in a good way. The world was so isolating and alien and full of places to explore. This was shadow dropped the earlier this week and I hope to play it soon. <\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=rjnByP10NJo\">Loop Hero<\/a> &#8211; A game where you control the world of an RPG rather than the character. <br \/><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Also announced and much to my surprise, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=TpsJktNeeVA\">Tetris Effect: Connected<\/a> will be coming to Nintendo Switch on October 8th. If you\u2019re not familiar with Tetris Effect, <a href=\"https:\/\/wyomingjarbo.com\/blog\/2019\/02\/14\/tetris-effect\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"2469\">I wrote about it when it came out two years ago<\/a>. This is a milestone release for Tetris, and fortunately, it won\u2019t be locked to any platform when it finally comes home to Switch. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"zxx\" dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/h8JYAVO1l1\">pic.twitter.com\/h8JYAVO1l1<\/a><\/p>&mdash; David Rousset (@davrous) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/davrous\/status\/1425433729133072386?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 11, 2021<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:10px\">Okay, I like QR codes now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">YouTube<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Did you know that the Ohio Department of Transportation has a YouTube channel with a show called <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=v2TbUYKt5BA\">The Loop<\/a>, and that they are celebrating 300 episodes? Some comedy is incredibly cheesy, but I&#8217;ve enjoyed finding out what&#8217;s happening in the state. Without it, I wouldn&#8217;t have known that Morgan County had a roundabout training session preparing for their first roundabout. Now only if I can send them my ideas for roundabout fatigue centers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/v2TbUYKt5BA?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-US&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Technology<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/arstechnica.com\/gadgets\/2019\/01\/the-linux-of-social-media-how-livejournal-pioneered-then-lost-web-blogging\">\u201cThe Linux of social media\u201d\u2014How LiveJournal pioneered (then lost) blogging | Ars Technica<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This reminds me a lot of when Yahoo purchased Flickr.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/arstechnica.com\/tech-policy\/2021\/08\/facebook-may-be-forced-to-sell-giphy-one-year-after-buying-it\/\">Facebook may be forced to sell Giphy one year after buying it.<\/a> I <a href=\"https:\/\/wyomingjarbo.com\/blog\/2020\/05\/15\/facebook-buys-giphy\/\">wrote about this a last year<\/a> since they were effectively planning to use GIFs as tracking pixels. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Popular Culture<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2021\/film\/news\/idris-elba-knuckles-sonic-the-hedgehog-2-1235038654\/\">Idris Elba is going to play Knuckles<\/a> in the second Sonic the Hedgehog movie.
