The Jarbochov Weekly Roundup (January 7th, 2022)

New year, new roundup.

Welcome back to the roundup. I am trying to get back into the swing of things after enjoying some time off.

We’re in 2022, still during record high numbers in a pandemic, and one year after the attempted insurrection that happened at the Capitol. It’s difficult for me to have an optimistic outlook this year after my optimism last year decimated. But I’ll take it day by day like everyone else and publish a weird weekly “newsletter” thing about good things on the Internet1.

This one will be a short one this week.

Welcome to a terrible version of Tetris every week. Where something just isn’t right, such as 5 block tetriminos, or clearing lines vertically. It’s just wrong, and pretty tetrible. Reminds me a lot of Not Tetris.

There’s a fascinating dynamic font called Dicier that you can use in building your own role playing or other tabletop games. It’s pretty full-featured.

Not shown, options for D8, D12, D20, etc.

A video showcasing analog HD2 in 1990 from Sony. For all the retro throwbacks we see in pop culture, there’s just something about the lighting in this video that you know it’s from 90s.

A mini-documentary from DotEmu the developer of the upcoming Windjammers 2. Windjammers has a unique history. It is widely available now, but just a few years ago, the only way you could play it was on a NeoGeo or via emulation. When I first learned about it, the one thing I learned was that the original was huge in France. It’s really nice to see how they tracked down the original team of what was a relatively minor game at release.

Page Boy: Nintendo’s LOST Game Boy Add-on | Game History Secrets

The Game Boy almost had a peripheral that would have allowed for downloadable games, news, and weather. You can kind of see some threads of these services eventually making their way to the Wii when it launched.

That’s all for this week. Let’s hope 2022 gives us some peace and prosperity. Don’t forget to share your finds either.

  1. And eventually about some of the bad things, like NFTs, which I’ve avoided talking about to this point. Don’t need the mob of techbros coming to tell me how I don’t understand da blockchain.
  2. Forget 1080p, welcome to 1035i !
