The Latest Google

Google has added a few new features that you should be aware of. The first being Google Music. Ever tried looking for lyrics, track listings, or album names, but only have a few pieces of information. Now in the Google search bar, you can type “music: [search terms]” and you’ll be well on your way to finding anything musically related.

Here are some examples.

Franz Ferdinand
“tin roof, rusted”
Ghostbusters

You’ll be able to find track listings, links, and lyrics links as well.

The other news is the latest from GMail. If you passed up Gmail this long, I don’t know why I bother, but for those who don’t know what’s new, let me update you.

  • You can now have Contact Groups, for mailing in mass.
  • Vacation responders for those extended periods of leave. You can also make sure that the responder is only for people on your contacts list.
  • Virus scanning. Using Gmail, you will never recieve a virus via e-mail. They take care of that for you.
  • Automatic links to addresses and tracking numbers. Get an instant link to a Google map, or your tracking status for FedEx, UPS, or USPS.

So that’s what’s new with Google these days. Plus there are several rumors flying around. The only one worth anything is the possibility of an upcoming Google Calendar. I’ve completely stopped using Microsoft Outlook, so that would be nice to have.
